By AP

Frankfort, KY – Heating assistance for some of the state's poorest residents is being signed into law by Governor Fletcher Tuesday.
The Kentucky House approved House Bill 283 Monday afternoon...the first major piece of legislation from the general assembly.
It would provide $10 million in heating aid to needy families from severance taxes on natural gas.
The state funding will supplement federal emergency heating assistance being distributed to tens of thousands of needy Kentuckians this winter.
The funding will be channeled through local Community Action agencies across the state thta help the poor pay to heat their homes.
The bill passed through both the House and Senate unanimously and becomes law immediately after the Governor's signature.
