I-65 North Reopened Following Accident Near Munfordville Thursday

Update at 4:41 p.m.:

I-65 North has been reopened at the site of a multi-vehicle crash near Munfordville. However, it will take some time for congestion along the interstate and nearby U.S. 31-W to clear.

Update at 3:25 p.m.:

The following update was released by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet:

I65 northbound is closed due to a multi-vehicle crash on Green River Bridge between Horse Cave (58) and Munfordville (65).   The crash is within the widening project work-zone.  The bridge is also under construction.  The bridge wall received impact.  The bridge has been inspected for safety and there is no cause for structural concern at this time.

Traffic is currently backed up beyond Exit 58.  A northbound detour is setup via Exit 58 eastbound to either US 31W or US 31E.  Motorists may wish to use US 31E north to Hodgenville and then head west to Elizabethtown via Lincoln Parkway to rejoin I65 in Elizabethtown.  Traffic on US 31W through Horse Cave and Munfordville is very congested and local travelers are urged to use caution at intersecting roads.

I65 southbound is also indicated slow/stopped conditions near and south of Munfordville.  There are no incidents reported for southbound.

Closure is expected to last 3+ hours.

Original post:

A multi-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon has led to the closure of the I-65 northbound lanes between Horse Cave and Munfordville.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is urging motorists to use alternate routes. U.S. 31-E may be the best option for motorists wishing to bypass local traffic during afternoon peak travel through towns along U.S. 31-W.
