Iraq Vet Challenges Northup

By AP

Louisville, KY – A veteran of the Iraq war says he plans to run against Congresswoman Ann Northup in next year's election.
Andrew Horne says he's getting in the third district race partly because he's unhappy with President Bush's policy in Iraq. Horne says the country is less safe since the invasion of Iraq nearly three years ago.
The 44 year old Horne is a lawyer in Louisville and is an officer in the Marine reserves. He got back from a tour of duty in Iraq last spring.
Horne was a life-long Independent until becoming a Democrat a couple of weeks ago.
He's the first Democrat to step up and announce a challenge of Northup. The five term Republican Congresswoman easily defeated Tony Miller in 2004 but Northup has always been a target of national Democrats because of the makeup of the third district.
Democrtas outnumber Republicans in the
district that covers most of Jefferson County.
