Jobless Rate Declines in Kentucky

By Dan Modlin

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky's seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate
dropped to 5.3 percent in July. That marks a decline
of two-tenths of one percent from June's figures.

According to the Office of Employment and Training,
the state's unemployment rate in July of 2003 had
stood at 6.6 percent. The Department's Chief Labor
Market Analyst, Carlos Craycraft, says, "We continue
to have notably lower monthly unemployment rates
compared to the same month last year."

Kentucky's non-farm employment rose by six
thousand last month. Gains were noted in the
government sector and in the state's leisure and
hospitality sector.
