Jobless Rate Remains Unchanged

By Dan Modlin

Bowling Green/Frankfort – State Officials say Kentucky's seasonally-adjusted
unemployment rate remained at 4.7 percent from
September to October. That figure marks the lowest
jobless level of the year, according to the Office of
Employment and Training. By comparison, the jobless
rate in Kentucky stood at six percent one year ago.

The department's Chief Labor Market Analyst, Carlos
Craycraft, says the state has not enjoyed unemployment
rate figures this low since early in 2001. He says
Kentucky's leisure and hospitality sector expanded by
2, 600 jobs in October of this year. On the negative side,
the government sector----which includes public education---
fell by five hundred jobs last month.

Officials say unemployment statistics are based on
estimates and are compiled to measure trends.
