John Hardin High School Big Man Named Kentucky's Top High School Football Player

John Hardin High School defensive tackle Matt Elam received news this week that he is the winner of the Paul Hornung Award, given annually to the top high school football player in the commonwealth.

The 6-foot-6 inch, 360-pound Elam is ranked the number seven overall prospect in the nation by one recruiting service, and has narrowed his college choices to Alabama, Notre Dame, and Kentucky.

He’s recovering from a partially dislocated patella suffered during the high school playoffs, which caused him to miss John Hardin’s 5-A semifinal loss to Bowling Green last Friday.

Elam will receive the Hornung Award Dec. 17 at a ceremony in Louisville.

The award-winning news team at WKU Public Radio consists of Dan Modlin, Kevin Willis, Lisa Autry, and Joe Corcoran.
