Judge Considering Richie Farmer's Child Support Case

A Franklin County judge is weighing whether to grant former University of Kentucky basketball star Richie Farmer's request to reduce his child support payments. The Lexington Herald-Leader and The Courier-Journal report that Family Court Judge Squire Williams heard testimony from Farmer and his ex-wife, Rebecca Farmer, on Thursday, but he did not issue a ruling.

Farmer, whose two terms as agriculture commissioner ended last year, is asking to reduce his child support payments because he is no longer employed and is recovering from hip surgery. Farmer lost an election for lieutenant governor last year on a ticket with state Senate President David Williams and testified that he has not been able to find a job.

Brian Logan, the attorney for Rebecca Farmer, argued that Richie Farmer was "voluntarily unemployed."
