Kentucky Firefighters Sent West

By WKYU-FM

Frankfort, KY – Twenty firefighters from the Kentucky Division of Forestry are being sent to Idaho to help battle wildfires scorching thousands of acres out west.
A fire in the Nez Perce National Forest near Grangeville, Idaho is said to be burning across more than 1,800 acres. The firefighters left last week and will return sometime next week.
Leah MacSwords, director of the Kentucky Division of Forestry, says the state is fortunate to be able to offer the asistance, but if drought conditions continue in Kentucky, we may have to ask the
U. S. Forest Service to return the favor in the fall.
