Kentucky Lawmakers Get Back to Work in Frankfort

Kevin Willis

Kentucky legislators will be trying to find a way to shore up the financially troubled pension plan for government retirees as they return to session Tuesday. Another big issue on their agenda is tax reform.

The House is scheduled to convene at noon EST, the Senate at 4:00 p.m.

Lawmakers will remain in session through the end of March in hopes of resolving the $33 billion unfunded liability in the state's pension system. They want to put more money into pensions but haven't yet identified where the cash would come from. Some proponents believe a separate proposal to reform the state's tax code could hold the answer.

The legislature met for a week in early January to elect House and Senate leaders, then took a three week break that ends Tuesday.
