Kentucky Managed-Care Company Files Medicaid Complaint

The company managing Medicaid in the Jefferson County area for 15 years has filed a formal protest of the process that awarded next year's contract to four companies.

The Courier-Journal reports Passport says in its complaint that as recently as last week officials were told the company would get 41 percent of the 16-county region's Medicaid population. That's because the formula is partly based on the company's network of doctors, hospitals and other providers. But on Wednesday, Passport was told it will be assigned only 27 percent.

The company claims the state is violating its own bidding process.

Passport also claims the state could have saved $80 million by accepting an offer that would have assigned Passport about 80 percent of the region's recipients.
