Kentucky State Senator Files Paperwork to Run for Judge-Executive

LRC Public Information

State Senator Bob Leeper has filed paperwork to run for McCracken County judge-executive.

Media reported Leeper, an Independent from Paducah, submitted signatures on Monday to get his name on the ballot in the Nov. 4 election.

Leeper had announced in October that he wouldn't run for Senate again. He served in that role for 23 years.

Incumbent Van Newberry told local media outlets on Monday that he would not seek re-election. Newberry and Deputy Judge-Executive Doug Harnice are facing charges of tampering with public records related to the altering of zoning maps. Both have pleaded not guilty.

Leeper will face Democratic nominee Jeff Hines, who is a retired circuit judge.
