State tourism officials in Kentucky are urging people who are fascinated by the Hatfield-McCoy feud to come to the bluegrass state to visit the sites of the legendary conflict. Interest in the story has been sparked by a new History Channel mini-series.
Its among the most famous feuds in history, and the mini-series starring Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton is leading to renewed interest about the bloody fighting that took place along the Tug Fork of the Big Sandy River. Historians say the feud claimed a dozen members of the two families between 1880 and 1891, in incidents that took place in West Virginia and Kentucky.
