Kentucky's Half of Bridge Money Still Contained in Road Bill

Money to repaint Owensboro’s Glover H. Cary bridge is still included in the state’s two-year road plan. The $3.5 billion  plan passed the Senate Transportation Committee this week and is expected to clear the full Senate by Friday.

But according to the Messenger-Inquirer, the money for the Daviess County “blue bridge” paint job is actually only half of what’s needed to get the job done.

Under an agreement between Kentucky and Indiana, each state would half to put up 50% of the funding needed for bridge maintenance. Kentucky lawmakers are hoping if they commit to their half of the funding, Indiana legislators will follow suit.

Daviess County area political and business leaders want the bridge repainted to alleviate what many there consider a major eye sore.
