Kevin Willis Named News Director At WKU Public Radio

WKU Public Radio

Kevin Willis has been named News Director at WKU Public Radio following the recent retirement of Dan Modlin. He previously served as Assistant News Director.

Kevin has worked at WKU Public Radio since 1999, when he graduated from WKU with a degree in broadcast journalism.  Prior to his time as assistant news director, Kevin was the station's local Morning Edition host.

"It is truly an honor to be a part of this news operation, and there is no other job in the world I would rather have," said Willis.

"We are in an enviable position to cover the most pressing issues throughout our listening area through the type of reporting that public radio listeners value. My favorite part of the job is how much I learn from the people we encounter in our region. There are so many amazing people with interesting stories to tell."

Kevin says one of his top goals is to expand the station’s coverage of regional news, and cites the importance of advancing WKU Public Radio's online and social media presence.

"It's been a little over a year since we completely revamped our website, and we're off to a great start. The top regional news stories of the day are front and center at our site, because that's one of the most important services we offer. We want our listeners to know that in addition to our news presence on the air, they can go to our website any time to learn more about what's going on throughout the region."

According to Station Manager Peter Bryant, "Kevin has been a vital part of our news operation for many years. We really want to increase the impact and reach of our regional news coverage, and he's ideally-suited to lead this effort. He also has an outstanding team of colleagues to work with in the news department."
