Lawsuit Filed Over Cross Burning

Burlington, KY – The Kentucky Civil Rights Commission has filed a lawsuit on behalf of an African-American family who had a cross burned on their lawn in Burlington last summer.
The three foot cross was burned on the front lawn of the family's home in July. The next day, juveniles donned white hoods and yelled racial slurs as they threw rocks at the family's car. The family that was targeted moved from the county days later.
Three teenagers were convicted in the case. One, a juvenile who was accused of instigating the cross burning in July, was sentenced to 21 months. 18 year old Matthew Scudder of Hebron and 19 year old Jimmy Foster of Independence will be sentenced December 16th in federal court.
