Lieutenant Governor Wants to Change Drug Strategy

By AP

Frankfort, KY – Governor Fletcher's Administration wants better
drug treatment---- instead of prison sentences---
for offenders. Lieutenant Governor Steve Pence
says the state plans to cut the number of non-violent
offenders in prison, and could delay the opening of
a one thousand bed prison which is under
construction in Elliot County.

Pence also is calling for the elimination of a
backlog of evidence testing at state labs. He
wants that backlog eliminated by April first.
Pence, who also serves as Justice Secretary,
wants to thoroughly review the state's drug
problems.
