In recognition of "Earth Hour" activities around the world, lights on the State Capitol in Frankfort were dimmed for one hour Saturday. "Earth Hour" is an international program backed by the World Wildlife Federation, to recognize the need to conserve energy and protect the environment.
Non-essential lights in the State Capitol were turned off at 8:30 pm Eastern time. The March 31st event is recognized at many landmarks around the world, including the Eiffel Tower, Buckingham Palace, and the Golden Gate Bridge. Governor Beshear says this is the fourth consecutive year Kentucky has participated in the event.
