Local Guardsman Killed In Iraq

By AP

Edmonton, KY – A National Guardsman from Metcalfe County has been killed in Iraq and another soldier from the same county suffered severe burns trying to rescue him.
Brenda Paronto of Eedmonton says she has been notified that her 21 year old son Eric Toth of Sulphur Well was killed Wednesday in Iraq.
Toth was killed when the Humvee in which he was riding ran over a land mine. The soldier's step-father, Steve Paronto, said another Metcalfe County guardsman, Ricky Brooks, was badly burned in the explosion and was flown to a burn unit at a hospital in Germany. Brooks had served with the Kentucky State Police and Edmonton police before joining the guard.
Toth was married with no children and was Brenda Paronto's only child. He was a graduate of Metcalfe County High School.
