Madison Co. Gets Prepared Designation

By AP

Richmond, KY – State officials have declared Richmond and Madison County jointly the first prepared Kentucky community in case of problems created by natural disasters or terrorists.
Governor Fletcher said after the 9/11 attacks that every Kentucky community needed to be prepared. Fletcher was joined at a Richmond news conference Monday by other state officials and local office holders.
Richmond mayor Connie Lawson said a state of the art fence would be built around the city's water treatment plant. More than 60 communities had undergone assessments and 30 others are planned.
