The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is moving ahead this week with a total pavement replacement and other improvements on a 4.2 mile stretch of Interstate 65 in the Louisville area.Motorists in the area will see construction signs, lane closures, and tractor-trailer detours.
The project is located along Interstate 65, from just north of the Watterson Expressway to the Chestnut Street overpass. Lane closures are expected through April 9th. After Kentucky Derby activities, a second period of lane closures is expected to start May 7th and run throughout the summer.
The $21.7 million project will include a waterproofing mixture and a new eight inch layer of asphalt. A higher median barrier will also be installed. Those planning to travel through the area can go on-line to 511.ky.gov for the latest traffic and travel information.
