Mattingly Murder Trial Begins

By AP

Louisville, KY – The jury selection in the murder trial of a former Louisville police officer is beginning after judge Judith McDonald-Burkman banned the public and the media from the courtroom.
The judge expressed concern about overcrowding in the courtroom.
The Associated Press and the Louisville Courier-Journal have filed an appeal of the judge's ban.
McKenzie Mattingly is facing a murder charge in the death of 19 year old Michael Newby. The parents of the dead youth gathered with protestors outside the courtroom Monday morning for a brief prayer vigil.
Mattingly is accused of shooting Newby in the back while an undercover drug detective.
