Memorial to Nuclear Workers Taking Shape in Kentucky

A memorial to nuclear industry workers during the Cold War is beginning to take shape in Paducah. In the six months since a house was moved to a corner lot, the building has been renovated as the anchor point for the ambitious plan.

Former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant worker Jonathan Hines told The Paducah Sun he feels good about the progress. Hines has survived three bouts with cancer.

Nearly 81,000 nuclear industry workers became ill after working in hazardous environments between the end of World War II and the collapse of the former Soviet Union.

The memorial will include a wrap-around garden, fountain, gazebo and walking path.
