Memorial Service For Slain Soldier

Leitchfield, KY – A memorial service is held Wednesday in Leitchfield for Kentucky National Guard Staff Sergeant William Allers III, who was killed in Iraq September 20th.
The noon-time ceremony is being held at the city's American Legion Hall. The funeral for Allers will be held Monday in Joppa, Maryland with burial Tuesday in Arlington National Cemetery.
The native of Baltimore settled in Leitchfield where he worked for an office supply business after serving in the regular U. S. Army. He joined the Kentucky National Guard in 2003.
Allers was killed and two other Kentucky Guard members were wounded when their armored Humvee struck a roadside bomb while on patrol. All three were assigned to the 617th MIlitary Police Company based in Richmond.
The 28 year old Allers is survived by his wife and two young children.
