Memorial Will Honor Ft. Campbell Soldiers Killed in 1985 Crash

The 101st Airborne Division and the 2nd Brigade Combat Team will hold a memorial on Wednesday, the anniversary of the crash of a flight carrying 248 soldiers from Fort Campbell in 1985.

The memorial will be held at the post on the Tennessee-Kentucky state line on the 27th anniversary of the crash of Arrow Airlines Flight 1285 in Gander, Newfoundland, on Dec. 12, 1985.

The soldiers were from the 3rd Battalion, 502 Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division or were attached to the unit and were returning home after a six-month peacekeeping mission in the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt.

The plane had stopped in Gander to refuel and crashed immediately upon takeoff, killing all 256 people on board.
