The United Methodist Publishing House has announced that it will move all retail sales to its online portal and call centers, with the intention of closing its Cokesbury bookstores. The Nashville-based publisher has supplied religious materials for decades. The firm distributes religious books, Bibles, and other Christian resources.
The publishing house board voted to close its 38 full-line stores and its 19 seminary stores. According to the Associated Press, a recent customer survey found that only 15 percent of respondents said they shop exclusively at the stores.
The CokesburyNext initiative will be rolled out through 2013. The last local Cokesbury store is expected to close its doors by April 30, 2013.
