Somerset, KY – State officials are investigating why sexual assaults on residents of the Communities At Oakwood" mental health facility in Somerset were not reported.
A male resident of the facility is accused of committing the assaults. Vikki Franklin of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services says the incidents were disclosed publicly after the cabinet's inspector general cited Oakwood.
The citation was for leaving the alleged attacker unsupervised with several other residents on September 25th. Franklin says there were no assaults that day, but records show the resident has a history of forcing other resients to engage in sex.
She adds that staff members were instructed never to leave him alone with others.
