More Evidence Released from Steve Nunn Murder Case

Lexington police are allowing access to the murder weapon used by former Barren County lawmaker Steve Nunn, who is serving a life sentence in prison for shooting to death his ex-fiance, Amanda Ross.

The five-shot Smith and Wesson handgun used by Nunn to kill Ross is the latest piece of evidence that police have released in the high-profile 2009 murder case. A spokeswoman for Lexington city government says officials plan to make hundreds of more documents available by the end of the month.

Authorities had originally denied access to the investigative file in the case, but changed course after an open records dispute with several media organizations. In addition to allowing photos to be taken of the murder weapon, Lexington police also permitted pictures of two bullet fragments taken from Ross’ body, and five spent bullet casings retrieved from the scene of the shooting, outside of the victim's Lexington townhouse.

Nunn shot Ross and then drove to his parents’ cemetery in Hart County, where he was apprehended by police.
