Murder Trial Set to Start in September

By AP

Louisville, KY – The murder trial for a former Louisville police officer
is now expected to start on September 20th. Mc Kenzie
Mattingly appeared in Jefferson County Circuit Court
this morning for a pretrial hearing. Mattingly is charged
with murder in the January shooting death of 19 year
old Michael Newby outside a Louisville liquor store.

Mattingly is white and Newby was black. Police described
the incident as a drug deal that went bad, but critics have
pointed out that Newby was shot in the back. The jury pool
for the case is expected to consist of about 150 people.

The next pretrial hearing in the case is set for August 2nd.
