New Clinton Business Brings 100 Jobs

By AP

Clinton, KY – Clinton has landed a stove manufacturing facility that's going to offer 100 new jobs.
Peerless Premiere is moving part of it's plant form Belleville, Illinois, where it eliminated about 100 union jobs after workers there declined to cut their wages to $10.00 an hour from about $13.00 an hour. The Clinton jobs will pay $8.00 an hour.
To help lure Peerless, Kentucky is offering a worker training program and allowing the company to keep $1.56 million in state taxes. The money will be from amounts withheld from workers over 15 years.
The Kentucky Economic Development Cabinet says the tax credit equals the $1.5 million investment in equipment that Peerless is making in Clinton. It also equals the amount of a lease to rent a building from the local industrial foundation.
The company also will receive a $980,000 grant to convert a shuttered textile plant to assemble ranges.
