New Henderson School of Fine Arts Application Deadline is Jan. 10

Henderson County High School

A new School of Fine Arts at Henderson County High School is getting ready to accept its first students. The deadline to apply is Jan. 10. The School of Fine Arts is offering tracks in visual arts, dance, theater, voice and instrumental music.

Students who are in eighth grade now at North Middle School, South Middle School or Holy Name School can apply. Students who are freshman now at Henderson County High School can also submit an application. Information about the SoFA is available here, along with the application.

Henderson County High School Fine Arts Coordinator Brian Ettensohn says the goal is to prepare students to continue with fine arts in college and to have a career in the arts. He says some parents are concerned about the job prospects for a child pursuing an arts career.  Ettensohn says there are more job opportunities than many people realize.

“A lot of times parents think, well if my kid is going into movies or on Broadway they want to act. No, not necessarily. They want to be writers or they may want to be behind the camera, they want to be directors. There are so many other jobs.”

Auditions and portfolio reviews will be scheduled after applications are reviewed following the Jan. 10 deadline.
