New Study Released on WKU's Economic Impact

By Dan Modlin

Bowling Green,KY – Researchers studied 35 counties in twenty states with similar characteristics to determine how much impact universities of similar size can have on a local economy. Dr. Brian Goff of the Center for Applied Economics says WKU accounts for about fourteen percent of the jobs in the area. He points out that the university also adds stability to the job market, because it has avoided major job-cutbacks and lay-offs. The study also concluded that WKU adds about twelve thousand dollars to median housing values in Warren County. Dr. Goff says the findings in the study aren't surprising, but they help to confirm that the university is having a major impact.
