NTSB Releases Some Details on UPS Plane Crash

Federal investigators say in a preliminary report that a UPS cargo jet crashed short of runway 18 while on approach to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.

The brief report released Tuesday night from the National Transportation Safety Board includes few new details about the August 14th crash. The NTSB is continuing to investigate the accident in a probe that's expected to take several months.

Authorities previously said the UPS A300 clipped trees around homes before crashing about a mile from the end of the runway. Both pilots died in the crash. The accident left debris scattered around the neighborhood but no one on the ground was injured.

The flight had originated from Louisville International Airport.
