Oil Well Explosion in Perry County under Investigation

By AP/Dan Modlin

Bulan, KY. – The Kentucky State Police say an oil well explosion
in Perry County has killed two workers and has
seriously injured another. Initially, one worker was
listed as missing, but authorities have now identified
36 year old Bill Chandler of Lost Creek as one of the
two workers killed.

Twenty nine year old Patrick Jeffers of Winfield, Tennessee
died Wednesday afternoon, after he was taken from the
worksite to the University of Kentucky Hospital. A third
worker, 37 year old Douglas Bell of Helenwood, Tennessee
is listed in critical condition at University of Cincinnati
Hospital.

Authorities say the workers were pulling tubing out of the
well and were replacing a pump at the time of the
explosion. Investigators have not yet determined the cause
of the fatal incident.
