Owensboro Must Give Back FEMA Money

By AP

Owensboro, KY – It's been almost four years since the Federal Emergency Management Agency delivered its fibal check to Owensboro for damage done by the January 3rd, 2000 tornado.
Now, FEMA wants some of the money back.
Owensboro officials recently learned that they have to give back just over $70,000 for overpayments turned up in a FEMA audit. Finance director J. T. Fulkerson says the overpayments were caused by paperwork errors made by FEMA workers.
Owensboro documented more than $1.35 million in claims for federal reimbursement as a result of repairs and other costs after the tornado.
