Owensboro's Bluegrass Museum Looking to Expand

The International Bluegrass Music Museum in Owensboro has big ideas for the future.  Officials want to turn the old state office building downtown into a new International Bluegrass Music Center.  Terry Woodward chairs the museum's board of trustees.  He says the move would triple the museum's space.

"We would incorporate in this center not only a museum, but we'd have a 1,000 seat theater and we'd had an outside stage where we could do concerts on the lawn and could accomodate a couple thousand people outdoors," says Woodward.

Woodward says plans also include a restaurant and recording studio.  The cost of converting the building is estimated at $9.6 million.  The city commission is committing $3 million toward the project, leaving the museum to come up with the remaining $7 million.  A fundraising campaign begins next month.
