Owensboro's General Fund Reserves Get Break

By AP/Dan Modlin

Owensboro, KY. – The general fund reserves for the City of Owensboro are
getting an unexpected break. The Federal Emergency
Management Agency has announced it is dropping
the city's tab for tornado clean-up miscalculations.

City officials say an audit turned up just over seventy
thousand dollars in overpayments for clean-up costs
after a tornado caused extensive damage in January
of 2000. Officials had made plans to work out a
payment plan with FEMA, but the agency has informed
the city that it is no longer seeking to collect.
