Owensboro's ROMP Festival Not Moving to a New Date

Owensboro’s annual ROMP festival will remain in June.  Organizers of the bluegrass event were considering an earlier date in the summer.  The International Bluegrass Music Museum board of trustees voted unanimously Monday to keep ROMP on the last weekend in June.  Organizers considered moving the three-festival to May, given the triple-digit heat during this year’s ROMP.

Fans who voted in an online poll favored the move 2-1, but museum executive director Gabrielle Gray says the board decided otherwise.  Gray tells the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer that a poll of those who attended this year's festival found that 91% of them said they were "very likely" to return in 2013.

Despite this year’s record heat, ROMP drew a record crowd of about 21,000 people.
