Frankfort, KY – Governor Elect Ernie Fletcher has named his running
mate in the recent gubernatorial election as the next
Justice Cabinet Secretary in Kentucky. Fletcher says
Steve Pence will serve a dual role as Lieutenant
Governor and Secretary of Justice.
Pence is a former federal prosecutor who plans to
focus on fighting Kentucky's drug problems. During
the gubernatorial campaign, Pence had promised to
be a working Lieutenant Governor who would take an
active role in the administration.
Serving a dual role is not unprecedented in Kentucky
government. Current Governor Paul Patton served as
Secretary of the Economic Development Cabinet when
he was Lieutenant Governor.
