Phys. Ed. Required In Schools

By AP

Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky Senate has approved a plan that says elementary schools must offer students thirty minutes of daily physical activity. Under the proposal, vending machines would also have to offer healthy choices.
Deep fried foods would be off limits as would sugary soft drinks.
Among other things, the proposal...sponsored by state senator Alice Forgy Kerr of Lexington...would limit retail fast foods like pizza and tacos from being offered in school cafeterias more than once a week.
Vending machines would have to be stocked with healthier foods and drinks and pupils would have limited access to them. Schoolds would also have nutritionists to help prepare cafeteria menus.
The senate passed the measure 26 - 10, it now heads to the House for consideration.
