Kentucky State Police say a suspect in a drug investigation has been shot after he fired at officers at a motel in western Kentucky.
Police said in a statement that the encounter began Wednesday night at a Motel 6 in Owensboro as officers tried to arrest the suspect. The statement says the man was staying in a room of the motel with a female and declined to come out when police arrived. Officers then backed off and called in hostage negotiators.
Police say the man came out of the room early Thursday and fired at officers, who shot back and hit the suspect.
He was taken to a hospital in Owensboro. His name wasn't released. Police said they did not know his current condition.
