Progress Made on State Budget

By AP

Frankfort – Governor Fletcher says he and members of the House leadership "got the ball down the field" during private budget meetings Friday morning.
House speaker Jody Richards agrees, but says the main sticking point on the Governor's tax plan remains.
Kentucky has not had a state budget since the beginning of the month. The legislature adjourned in April without passing one because the House and Senate couldn't agree on Fletcher's tax proposal.
Fletcher says he wasn't expecting them to reach an agreement Friday. However, he says he and lawmakers were focused on "moving more toward an agreement".
The Governor says such an agreement may likely get more difficult as the November elections approach.
