Second Evacuation Order Given Near Derailed Train in Kentucky

Authorities are ordering a second round of evacuations near the site of a train derailment in Louisville as work begins to remove hazardous chemicals from some of the cars. Officials said Monday the latest evacuation will only affect a fraction of the area included in an evacuation almost two weeks ago that sent hundreds from their homes after a chemical fire erupted at the site.

Jody Duncan, a spokeswoman for the Louisville-Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency, says the evacuation will affect 31 homes within a half-mile radius of the derailment.

The evacuation will coincide with work starting early Tuesday to remove hydrogen fluoride and butadiene from four rail tanker cars.

Duncan says officials from Paducah & Louisville Railway will visit each home to give the residents pre-paid hotel information.
