Skateboards Banned At WKU
Bowling Green, KY – Because of safety concerns and citing property damage, Western Kentucky University officials have banned the use of skateboards and other modes of transportation on campus.
Also banned are in-line skates, roller skates and trick bicycles.
Dean of Student Life Howard Bailey says the decision came about partially because of the damage done to benches and walls around campus. He said the damage is particularly evident at the Guthrie Tower and Plaza, the complex for engineering and biological sciences and the Downing University Center patio.
While Bailey says he's not aware of any major injuries on Western's campus due to skateboards, in-line skates or trick bikes, he says it's become a problem on many other campuses across the country
