State Holding Public Meetings to Explain Health Insurance Exchange

State officials will be in Somerset Wednesday explaining the federal health care law and how it applies to the average citizen. Representatives from the Kentucky Department of Insurance and Cabinet for Health and Family Services will talk about the health insurance exchange the state is in the process of establishing.  The Affordable Care Act requires states to set up marketplaces for consumers to compare and purchase insurance plans.  Governor Steve Beshear says the exchange will be much more than a website.

"It's gonna be an operation where folks will be able to get the information they need and they'll be able to talk to real people because health care plans are complex, we all know that.  People are gonna need some help in looking at these things and in making informed decisions," says Beshear.

Wednesday's public forum runs 1 pm until  3:30pm at Somerset Community College.   Another public meeting is scheduled for Aug. 17 in Owensboro.
