State Removes Official From Somerset Center

By AP

Somerset, KY – The state has removed a top official who oversees a center for the mentally retarded in Somerset after a death at the facility.
A male resident at Communities At Oakwood drowned in a bathtub on August 13th. He was unsupervised at the time.
A citation from the state issued last week said the resident suffered from seizures and should not have been left alone.
The commissioner for mental health and mental retardation, Pat wear, has been reassigned while state officials review oversight at Oakwood.
Oakwood has been under supervision by the U. S. Department of Justice since it launched a civil rights investigation in 2001
