State Seeks Fine For Prison Riot

By AP

Frankfort, KY – The state is seeking a $10,000 fine againsty the company that runs a prison where a riot broke out.
The riot at the Lee Adjustment Center in Beattyville two months ago ended without serious injury or escapes.
State corrections commissioner John Rees asked finance secretary Robbie Rudolph in a letter to fine Nashville based Corrections Corporation of America. The letter says the company failed to adequately organize, equip, train and maintain 20 response team members.
A state report also released Tuesday says only 7 response team members were available the evening of the riot. It's the first time the state has sought to fine a private prison operator.
A spoeswoman for Rudolph says he's reviewing the recommendation...a spokesman for the prison company says the fine would be paid.
