Suspicious Package Leads to Evacuation of Consular Center in Whitley County
A southern Kentucky office where visa requests are processed had to evacuate and workers were decontaminated after two suspicious packages turned up at the facility. Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird told The Times-Tribune that three workers at the Kentucky Consular Center were isolated, decontaminated and medically cleared after opening the packages.
Bird says the packages were delivered Tuesday morning and the workers were exposed to an unknown substance.
Bird said Hazmat officials will test the substance.
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell cancelled a planned stop at the facility Tuesday, but there isn't believed to be a connection between the packages and McConnell's visit.
