Teachers Meet On Possible Strike

By AP

Louisville, KY – Teachers in Jefferson County meet Wednesday afternoon to talk about a possible strike over the issue of state health insurance.
Governor Fletcher released details of a new insurance program Tuesday at the Capitol. It will carry higher deductibles and co-payments.
It also includes, for the first time, discounts for non-smokers and other incentives for healthy living. Premiums are proportionately lower for emnployees at the low end of the pay scale.
Brent McKim, president of the Jefferson County Teachers Association, says Fletcher is shifting $150 million in costs to employees. McKim says he plans to push for a strike vote by the Kentucky Education Association.
Also Wednesday morning about 70 state employees walked through the rain to the capitol in Frankfort to protest the new insurance program.
