Ten Departments Battle Bowling Green Field Fire

More than 100 fire fighters from city and county departments fought a fire for more than five hours before getting it under control.

Barren River Volunteer Fire Department Chief James Greer said the grass fire was first reported just before 3:00 Sunday afternoon in a field at the intersection of Morgantown Road and Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Bowling Green.

No injuries were reported.

Fire fighters were hampered in their efforts by triple digit temperatures and winds that blew the flames across the open fields. An abandoned house and a barn were destroyed by the flames.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
