Tennessee Guard Restructures

By AP

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee National Guard is being reorganized...the most sweeping changes since World War Two.
Major General Gus Hargett, who commands state Guard units, says the changes are designed to meet the threat of terrorism, which has placed new demands on reserve units across the nation.
Hargett says the restructure mirrors ongoing efforts by the Pentagon to change the active military into smaller, more mobile units.
He says the changes will make the National Guard look just like the regular Army.
Five Guard armories are being closed in Oak Ridge, Harriman, Newbern, South Pittsburgh and Martin.
